Title Bad Experience - Atlas America
Posted By M Pathak , Dated : 10-Oct-2011 11:10 AM
Experience We bought Atlas America Plan from Visitor’s Coverage for our in laws when they visited us this year. On 31st May 2011, my father in law got fainted we rushed him to the nearest hospital. He was diagnosed of having a stroke and an IC bleed. Mercy hospital air lifted him to the nearest big hospital and he was admitted for 5-7 days. We contacted Visitor’s coverage and HCC immediately and informed them about the entire situation. After his discharge, we started getting various bills which went on and on for months. We made numerous calls to insurance providers checking about the status and every time we were told that additional information requested from service provider. On day we got a call from Mercy St John’s informing us that they are sending our details to collection agencies due to delay in paying hospital bills. We told them that insurance provider has asked additional information from you and hospital said we have already given everything months back and now we had to report this to collection agencies. Somehow we connected both of them together and resolved that mess. Now last week insurance company has sent us a bill of $47, 000 denying everything saying Pre-existing condition as a reason.

I wonder how can stroke and IC bleed be a pre-existing condition?

This firm is a complete fraud and we are discussing with attorneys to help us out. We are also filing a written complaint in state insurance commission.

Beware!!! Never buy anything from Visitor’s Coverage. They are complete fraud.

Title DO NOT BUY FROM ATLAS AMERICA
Posted By Naveen , Dated : 13-Sep-2011 10:29 PM
Experience I bought insurance from Atlas America for my father-in-law, which did say it covered upto $15000 for pre-existing condition as long as it is for diagnosis. Because of that coverage condition, they charged me additional premium. But when it came time to pay for basic doctor visits, they rejected all the claims. Not even a single claim was paid, even if the claim was not even related to the pre-existing condition.
I do understand how the insurance process works, I can understand they cannot cover expensive procedures directly related to the pre-existing condition, but this insurance company is ridiculous. They rejected claims for any specific diagnosis checks and any regular checkups. I would not buy from them again and wanted to warn others who are considering them.

Title experience with ICICI lombard
Posted By Navratan , Dated : 10-Sep-2011 09:23 AM
Experience Just a piece of advice , never ever buy insurance from ICICI lombard. One simple reason- THEY DON"T PAY
They are possibly the ultimate worst insurace (not evern sure if they are really insurace company). The good experience only lasts untill you give them your credit card for the premium, after that you are on your own. Never try to call their customer service as they are some of the worst. I could overlook all others things but most important thing, they did not pay when we had a doctors visit.

Title HCC Med Insurance, Atlas - bad experience, continued
Posted By Jerzy Krzeminski, visitor to US , Dated : 23-Oct-2010 02:05 AM
Experience I have asked on 1st Oct for an explanation for giving me denial for pre-existing condition. Have received an answer: "Thank you for contacting HCC MIS.I will need to pull your file and review your claims in under to give you that determination. Please allow up to 48 business hours to follow up. ". Nothing happened since then, despite my two more mails. I filed an appellation /enclosing letter from my cardiology consultant/ but do not have much hope. I begin to think about a lawyer...

Title Communicate with claims and File an appeal
Posted By Rajeev , Dated : 29-Sep-2010 09:29 AM
Experience Let me give my point of view for Pre-Existing conditions.

Not taken any previous treatment for the problem, does not mean that problem was not existed prior to the policy start date. Many times, symptoms appears much later. A physician or medical expert can better assess these situations.

Now, in your case,

- Did you communicate with HCC claims dept. and ask for explanation ? If not please do so.
Also file a written appeal, and their claims dept. should review your case again.
Let me tell you, insurance company is not bad , If your claim is valid it will be paid.
I would recommend you to contact your agent Or the insurance administration directly , and I am sure they will help you.

Title HCC Med Insurance, Atlas - bad experience
Posted By Jerzy Krzeminski, visitor to US , Dated : 29-Sep-2010 08:12 AM
Experience Hello,

I am a tourist from Poland, male, 56 years old, /Polish citizen/ and I often
spend vacation in Florida /twice a year recently/. For that I always had
travel medical insurance, always from company HCC Medical Insurance.
This insurance, Atlas 4, I bought from HCC web page and pay with credit card. I always had HCC Medical insurance before but never claimed anything as nothing ever happened. Until then.

In the morning of 4th Nov 2009 I noticed pulse 150 beats/min and went to see doctor in a outpatient clinic in St. Pete, FL. A doctor here has done EEC and called ambulance which took me to Bayfront Medical Center, St. Petersburg, FL. I was diagnosed with A-Fib /Atrial Fibrillation/, treated with tablets and discharged next day. The service in hospital was good, efficient and friendly.
A admin nurse from hospital contacted HCC Med Insurance /before doctors see me/ for pre-certification and took $ 250 deductible from my credit card.

Total bills were close to 12,000 dollars /ambulance, hospital, consultants/ and hospital has sent bills directly to HCC. Now, Sept 2010, I received Explanation of Benefits and HCC deny to pay any of those bills calling Pre-Existing condition. I have never in my life been in hospital and never had arrhythmia before, I am treated for mild hypertension and have no other diseases. The outstanding bills were sent to payment collectors by now.

HCC Med Insurance did not explained why my sudden illness was qualified as Pre-Existing condition, just informed me in a short letter dtd 7th Sept 2010.

I do not know what I can do now.

Experience Sorry to hear that you are having this issue.
Did you communicate with the insurance company and make your points/supporting documents to ? did you actually know what is the Doctors report or diagnosis on this ?
Unless, the complete information is known, it is not fair to put blame on insurance company completely.
Can you please email me (rajeev@VisitorsCoverage.com) , the details including Policy number and some brief about this claims, and let me see If I can help you with this, If this is indeed a valid claim, it should be paid.

Title Atlas america plan by HCC medical services
Posted By rahul , Dated : 14-Sep-2010 01:00 PM
Experience I got full comprehensive coverage for my parents through Atlas america. My father contracted malaria and was taken to the hospital for treatment. They squirmed their way out of paying saying that its a preexisting condition..!!! Thats completely wrong .. they say that he contracted the condition on the day the insuracne went into effect..whats the idea of effective day then.. you cannot use insuracne for a certain number of days after u buy it then..!!

I make a strong suggestion for not buying insurance from this company.. they are very bad at customer service..and are very unreliable.
