I need to take a Coronavirus (COVID-19) test for my flight, will it be covered?

Answer provided by a licensed Insurance advisorLicensed U.S. Insurance Specialist at VisitorsCoverage
COVID-19 testing is typically covered by travel insurance only under specific circumstances:
  • The test must be diagnostic and recommended by a physician after the policy’s effective date. This is usually required when the insured is symptomatic or has been exposed to COVID-19.
  • Voluntary testing, such as pre-travel screenings or at-home tests required for travel restrictions, is generally not covered by most plans.
  • For example, the CoverAmerica-Gold plan includes a COVID-19 Test Benefit, which offers coverage up to $150 for a test. To qualify for this benefit, you must purchase a minimum of 30 days of coverage before departing your home country.
