Patriot Lite (A.M. Best Rating: A-) is a comprehensive travel medical insurance plan that offers affordable medical coverage for international visitors traveling to the United States. It provides coverage for eligible new illnesses and injuries, access to the UnitedHealthcare PPO network, and emergency travel assistance throughout your stay. Coverage is available from 5 days to 365 days.

While in the U.S., after the deductible is satisfied within the United Healthcare PPO network, the plan will pay 100% of eligible medical expenses up to the selected policy maximum. Outside of the PPO network, the plan will pay 80% of the first $5,000 of eligible medical expenses then 100% thereafter, up to the selected policy maximum.

Patriot Lite does not cover pre-existing conditions.

  • Coverage begins once the policyholder has left their home country and is in transit to or has entered one of the eligible destination countries

    The Adventure Sports Rider is available for those up to the age of 65. The following activities are covered to the lifetime maximum amounts listed below as long as they are engaged solely for leisure, recreation, or entertainment purposes:any Illness or Injury sustained while taking part in activities designated as Adventure Sports, which are limited to the following: abseiling; BMX; bobsledding; bungee jumping; canyoning; caving; hot air ballooning; jungle zip lining; parachuting; paragliding; parascending; rappelling; skydiving; spelunking; whitewater kayaking or whitewater rafting in water less than Class V difficulty; wildlife safaris; and windsurfing.

    The Patriot Lite plan is available for any non-US Resident, visiting the USA for a short period of time. It is available to both US and Non US citizens, who permanently live outside the USA, and are traveling to the USA for a short trip.

    The Patriot Lite plan does not offer any coverage for pre-existing conditions.

    The cost of Patriot Lite varies based on several qualifying criteria, such as the traveler's age, duration or length of trip, selected coverage benefit limits, and the selection of additional riders. Typically, it can cost about $4 a day for a person 50 years of age, when selecting coverage area or destination of travel as the USA.

    Yes, you can extend the Patriot Lite policy. You would need to extend the plan at least two days before the policy expires. There would be an extra $5 extension charge.

    Yes, you can cancel and get a refund for Patriot Lite, if you need to go back earlier than plan. The following rules apply:

    • Submit cancellation request through your account.
    • If you cancel the policy before the start date, you are eligible for a full refund.
    • If you cancel after the policy start date, you can get a refund only if no claims have been filed.
    • $50 cancellation fee applies.
    You cannot remove one person from the policy if other travelers are included. We recommend letting the current Patriot Lite policy lapse with all travelers or canceling and repurchasing for the remaining travelers as per the policy terms.
    In order to apply for Patriot Lite, you will need names, date(s) of birth, home country address, and a valid credit card.

    You can print out your ID card from your confirmation e-mail and it will be used as proof of insurance. While filling out the online Patriot Lite application, you will receive confirmation in your e-mail. You can also retrieve your ID card using MyIMG: Get My ID Card

    Patriot Lite will provide coverage in all eligible countries visited with the exception of your Home Country and any restricted countries listed in the policy documentation. Coverage will only be offered within the policy start and end dates. Please note: If any part of your trip includes the United States, please select it as your destination country.

    Based on the desired coverage length you have selected, you have to make the full payment at once.

    Since Patriot Lite is extendable, you can extend it anytime you would like to before the policy expires. There is a extendable fee of $5 that associated with the extension.

    Coverage will begin on the date selected and once the policyholder has left their home country. The Patriot Lite policy will only cover for conditions that occur after the policy effective date.
    Only the primary destination in the application will be listed on the Patriot Lite policy documents, but rest assured that all other eligible inputted countries will be covered during the active policy period.
    Coverage on the Patriot Lite plan will begin on the date of departure and once the traveler has left their home country. Coverage areas are anywhere outside ones' home country as long as the policy is active. The coverage will end immediately once the traveler has entered back into their home country.
    No, your Patriot Lite plan won't be extended or renewed automatically. You have to sign into your account online and activate the extension or renewal yourself. Not all plans are extendable or renewable, so be sure to review your policy terms and conditions for eligibility.
    If your school or educational program does not any have specific health insurance requirements to meet, Patriot Lite can offer short-term health insurance coverage while you are abroad. It is important to confirm with the school or educational program to ensure that any short-term health insurance plan will be accepted by them.
    The insurance provider recommends that you submit any correction requests in writing as your policy is a legally enforceable document. Following receipt of the correction, we send the request to the insurance provider; normally, the updates require 3-5 business days. They are processed in the order that they are received. We advise double-checking the information on the Patriot Lite application before completing the purchase to prevent any errors and corrections.

    This is a discount savings program available to every certificate holder of the Patriot Lite plan. This program allows card members to purchase prescriptions at one of over 35,000 participating pharmacies in the U.S. and receive the lower of 1) Universal Rx contract price or 2) the pharmacy regular retail price.

    This discount program is not insurance coverage. It is purely a discount program to purchasers of the Patriot Lite plan. Use of the discount card does not guarantee that prescribed medication is covered under the insurance benefit plan.

    The Adventure Sports Rider offered in the Patriot Lite plan is available for travelers up to the age of 65 and must be purchased at the time of application. The rider is designed to cover a policyholder while participating in the following activities if the activity is solely for leisure, recreation or entertainment purposes:abseiling, BMX; bobsledding; bungee jumping; canyoning; caving; hot air ballooning; jungle zip lining; parachuting; paragliding; parascending; rappelling; skydiving; spelunking; wildlife safaris; and windsurfing.

    All such activities must be carried out in strict accordance with the rules, regulations and guidelines of the applicable Governing Body or Authority of each such activity.     The Patriot Lite Device/Cellular Protection rider is an optional coverage that certain residents can purchase to cover their cellular phone in case of damages during travel. The optional rider can either provide coverage for repair costs or some coverage for replacing the cellular phone.

    Residents from the following countries have the option to purchase this additional rider for coverage during their international travels: USA, Belgium, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Austria, Italy, Ireland, South Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand.

    The Patriot Lite Accidental Death and Dismemberment rider is a choice exclusively offered to the main insured person, and it must be acquired at the time of application, with a minimum requirement of 3 months of coverage. This additional rider provides enhanced coverage on top of the standard Accidental Death and Dismemberment benefit already incorporated within the policy. PLEASE NOTE: The Premium is charged in whole-month increments.
    The Patriot Lite Telehealth Rider is an optional benefit that provides 24/7 access to U.S. board-certified doctors and pediatricians for diagnosis, treatment, and prescriptions for new illnesses or injuries via phone or video.
    If your original Patriot Lite payment method is invalid, refunds require a wire/ACH transfer. Please provide complete account holder details, including full address, account type (checking/savings), bank information, and complete addresses for processing.
    To purchase the Patriot Lite policy, the minimum premium must be at least $10. If your total premium for the duration of coverage is less, you will be charged $10 to meet the requirement.
