Atlas America insurance is a visitor insurance plan that provides medical coverage and emergency services to Non-US citizens travelling outside their home country, including the USA. This plan also offers limited coverage for acute onset of pre-existing conditions for visitors. After the deductible is satisfied, the plan pays 100% up to policy maximum, both for travel within and outside the USA.

Pre-Existing Conditions

If you are under age 70, you are covered for acute onset of a pre-existing condition up to the selected medical maximum (excludes chronic and congenital conditions). And for Emergency Medical Evacuation coverage is up to $25,000.
For ages 70-79, up to $100,000 in acute onset of pre-existing conditions coverage.
An acute onset of a re-existing condition is a sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a pre-existing condition which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of physician recommendations or symptoms. Treatment must be obtained within 24 hours of the sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence.

Home Country Definition

US citizens: Home Country is always the United States, regardless of the location of your Principal Residence.
Non US citizens: Home Country is the country where you principally reside and receive regular mail.

US States Restrictions

Cannot be physically located in Maryland, New York, Washington, Canada or Australia at time of purchase. This restriction is only for purchase. The plan still provides coverage for a policy holder visiting NY, MD, or WA.

Country Restrictions

Cannot be purchased for travel to or from North Korea, Iran, and Cuba

Q1. Am I eligible for the Atlas Series Plan?

The Atlas Series plan is available for:

  • US and Non-US citizens traveling outside their home country and country of citizenship.
  • If you are a Non US citizen traveling outside your home country, including the USA, you are eligible for the Atlas America Plan.
  • If you are a Non US citizen traveling to any country outside your home country, but not visiting the USA, you are eligible for the Atlas International Plan.
  • If you are a US Citizen traveling outside the USA, you are eligible for the Atlas International Plan.
  • The Atlas series Plan is not available for US citizens coming back to the USA, or other Non US citizens going back to their Home Country/Country of citizenship
  • Q2. What Information do I need to buy the Plan?

    You would need the names, dates of birth, passport numbers of the visitors, and a valid credit card to buy the plan.

    Q3. When will I receive my ID card?

    You can print out your ID card from your confirmation e-mail and it will be used as proof of insurance.

    Q4. Can I renew the plan, if I plan to stay longer?

    Yes, if you buy the plan initially for more than 5 days, you can renew the policy. You would need to renew the plan at least two days before the policy expires. There would be an extra $5 renewal charge. The policy can be renewed for up to a maximum of 364 days.

    Q5. Can I cancel the plan, if I plan to go back earlier?

    Yes, you can cancel and get a refund for the Atlas International/America Plan, if you need to go back earlier than planned. The following rules apply:

  • Written request is required for any cancellation.
  • You can get refund back, only if you do not need to visit the doctor/provider while the policy is in force.
  • If you cancel before the start date, you would get the full refund back.
  • If you cancel after the policy start date, you can get a pro-rated refund for the number of days left in the policy.
  • $25 cancellation fee applies.
  • If there is any claim on file, you would not get any refund back.
  • Q6. Are pre-existing conditions covered by the Atlas America Plan?

    Pre-existing conditions are not covered by Atlas America Plan. However, the Atlas America Plan covers up to the policy maximum for acute onset of pre-existing conditions in people up to 69 years of age. For age 70-79, the plan provides up to $100,000 in coverage for acute onset of pre-existing conditions. It is up to the attending physician to determine if a particular medical situation is related to pre-existing condition or not, and also if it would be considered as an acute onset or not. Please check the Description of Coverage for more information about what is considered as acute onset of pre-existing condition.

    Q7. What is an acute onset of pre-existing condition?

    An acute onset is a sudden unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a Pre-existing Condition which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of Physician recommendations or symptoms, is of short duration. It has to be an acute medical condition that requires immediate medical attention. More conditions and restrictions apply. Please check the Description of Coverage to understand what is covered under acute onset of pre-existing condition.

    Q8. What's the Rx Discount Card that comes with this plan?

    This is a discount savings program available to every certificate holder of the Liaison plans. This program allows card members to purchase prescriptions at one of over 35,000 participating pharmacies in the U.S. and receive the lower of 1) Universal Rx contract price or 2) the pharmacy regular retail price.

    This discount program is not insurance coverage. It is purely a discount program to purchasers of the Liaison Continent plans. Use of the discount card does not guarantee that prescribed medication is covered under the insurance benefit plan.

    Q9. What is the Incidental Home Country Coverage?

    During the policy period, if you need to go back to your home country for a short trip, and come back again, then the plan would cover in your home country for such short trips. For US citizens,coming back to the USA for an incidental trip, the maximum number of days for coverage is 15 days. The maximum number of days covered in incidental trip to home country for NON US citizens is 30 days. The trip must not be taken for medical purposes. Incidental home country coverage does not apply to final trip to home country.

    Q10. Which doctor or hospital can I go to?

    You can go to any doctor or hospital of your choice and be covered 100%. However, if you choose to go to a provider within the PPO network for Atlas Plan, which is the First Health Coventry Network, benefit prices may be negotiated.

    Q13. When I buy this plan, do I need to make the full payment at once or do I have the option of paying it on a monthly basis?

    Based on the desired coverage length you have selected, you have to make the full payment at once.

    Since this plan is renewable you can renew it anytime you would like to before the policy expires. There is a renewable fee of $5 that associated with the renewal.
