Safe Travels USA - Cost Saver is an A rated comprehensive Travel Medical insurance plan that provides medical coverage and other covered travel and emergency services for visitors to the U.S during their travel and temporary stay outside of their home country. The coverage duration is available from 5 days to 364 days. While in the U.S, after the deductible is satisfied, the plan will pay 80% of the first $5,000 of eligible medical expenses then 100% thereafter. The PPO provider for Safe Travels USA - Cost Saver Insurance is United Healthcare, a network recognized by all major hospitals and healthcare facilities.

When visiting a healthcare facility, remember to mention United Healthcare as your PPO provider. Safe Travels USA - Cost Saver policy holders should visit providers listed within the United Healthcare directory to take advantage of in-network benefits.


Outside the USA

There is no PPO network outside the United States. If your plan allows for coverage outside of the United States, you can visit any doctor or hospital.

Pre-existing conditions are not covered under Travel Medical plans unless classified as an acute onset of pre-existing condition by a physician and the insurer. Here are some common pre-existing conditions:

    Active policy holders are encouraged to submit all policy renewals, corrections, or cancellations online through your account for timely processing.

    The Safe Travels USA Cost Saver plan is available for any non-US citizen or resident, including green card holders, visiting the USA for a short period of time. It is not available for US citizens, or long-term visa holders who pay taxes in the USA.

    The Safe Travels USA-Cost Saver plan does not offer any coverage for COVID-19. For more in-depth information regarding the impact of the coronavirus on travel insurance, please go to our information hub.
    Safe Travels USA-Cost Saver does not cover coronavirus testing.
    The Safe Travels USA - Cost Saver plan does not cover for the COVID-19 vaccine/booster. Please sign in to your account to view your plan specific documents for any limits or exclusions.
    The Safe Travels USA - Cost Saver plan does not offer any coverage for quarantine.


    You will need names, date(s) of birth, home country address, and a valid credit card.

    Coverage will be provided in all eligible countries visited with the exception of your Home Country and any restricted countries listed in the policy documentation. Coverage will only be offered within the policy start and end dates. Please note: If any part of your trip includes the United States, please select it as your destination country.

    You can print out your ID card from your confirmation e-mail and it will be used as proof of insurance. Nothing is sent to the mailing address in the home country.

    You can go to any doctor or hospital of your choice. If you would like, you can choose to go in the PPO network for Safe Travels USA Cost Saver Plan, which is the United Healthcare PPO Network.

    Yes, if you buy the plan initially for more than 5 days, you can extend the policy. You would need to extend the plan at least two days before the policy expires.

    Coverage will begin on the date selected and once the policyholder has left their home country. The policy will only cover for conditions that occur after the policy effective date.
    No, your Safe Travels USA - Cost Saver won't be extended or renewed automatically. You have to sign into your account online and activate the extension or renewal yourself. Not all plans are extendable or renewable, so be sure to review your policy terms and conditions for eligibility.

    Yes, you can cancel and get a refund for the Safe Travels USA Cost Saver Plan, if you need to go back earlier than planned. The following rules apply:

  • 1) A written request is required for cancellation.
  • 2) If you cancel the policy before the start date, you would get the full refund back.
  • 3) After the policy start date, you can get the refund, only if you do not need to visit the doctor/provider while the policy is in force.
  • 4) You can get the prorated refund back for the number of days left in the policy.
  • 5) $25 cancellation fee applies.
  • 6) If there is any claim on file, you would not get any refund back.
  • You cannot remove one person from the policy if other travelers are included. We recommend letting the current policy lapse with all travelers or canceling and repurchasing for the remaining travelers as per the policy terms.

    Pre-existing conditions are not covered in the Safe Travels USA Cost Saver Plan. It covers only up to $1,000 for an unexpected recurrence of pre-existing conditions. Please check the Description of Coverage for more information about what is considered as acute onset of pre-existing condition.

    An unexpected recurrence is a sudden unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a Pre-existing Condition which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of Physician recommendations or symptoms, is of short duration. It has to be an acute medical condition that requires immediate medical attention. More conditions and restrictions apply. Please check the Description of Coverage to understand what is covered under unexpected recurrence of pre-existing condition.

    Adventure or extreme sports like skiing, sky diving, mountain biking, rafting etc are not covered in the Safe Travels USA-Cost Saver Plan. It offers optional coverage only for some specific athletic sports.

    Athletic Sports are usually not covered in travel medical policies. With additional premium you can purchase the optional Athletic Sports Rider Coverage with the Safe Travels USA-Cost Saver Plan. There are two classes of sports specified in plan for optional coverage. Class 1 and Class 2.

  • Class 1 - includes Archery, Tennis, Swimming, Cross Country, Track, Volleyball and Golf
  • Class 2 - includes Ballet, Basketball, Cheerleading, Equestrian, Fencing, Field Hockey, Football (no division 1), Gymnastics, Hockey, Karate, Lacrosse, Polo, Rowing, Rugby and Soccer
  • Please check the Plan Brochure to understand what is covered under the optional Athletic Sports Coverage .

    Based on the desired coverage length you have selected, you have to make the full payment at once.

    Since this plan is extendable you can extend it anytime you would like to before the policy expires. There is a extendable fee of $5 that associated with the extension.

    Coverage on the travel medical insurance plan will begin on the date of departure (12:01am CST) and once the traveler has left their home country. Coverage areas are anywhere outside one's' home country as long as the policy is active. The coverage will end immediately once the traveler has entered back into their home country and at 12:01am CST the day after the last date of coverage.

    To purchase a Safe Travels USA-Cost Saver policy, the minimum premium must be at least $10. If your total premium for the duration of coverage is $7, you will be charged $10 to meet the requirement.     If you go to an in-network provider, the deductible amount will be $0. Please keep in mind, if you go to an out-of network provider, you will have to fully satisfy the deductible chosen on your policy before the insurance company will pay for any eligible medical treatment and services.
