CoverAmerica - Gold is a visitor insurance plan that provides medical insurance coverage and emergency services for non US citizens and non US residents traveling to the USA. It also covers incidental trips to Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, Latin America and South America, while visiting the USA. After the deductible is satisfied, within the PPO network , the plan will pay 100% of eligible medical expenses up to the policy maximum. Outside the PPO network, the plan will pay 100% of URC up to the policy maximum of eligible medical expenses. Outside the USA, after the deductible is satisfied, the plan will pay 100% up to the chosen policy maximum.

CoverAmerica - Gold Insurance FAQs

Q1. Am I eligible for the CoverAmerica - Gold?

The CoverAmerica - Gold plan is available for:

  • Any non-US citizen or resident, visiting the USA, for a short period of time.
  • It also covers for incidental trips from USA to Canada, Mexico, Bahamas, South America & North America. .
  • The plan is available for a minimum of 5 days and a maximum of 364 days.
  • It is not available for US citizens, US Green Card Holders or long term visa holders, who stay in the USA permanently, and pay taxes in the USA.
  • It is also not available to the residents of the following countries:Islamic Republic of Iran, Syrian Arab Republic, U.S. Virgin Islands, Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone

  • Q2. What Information do I need to buy the Plan?

    You would need the names, dates of birth, passport numbers of the visitors, and a valid credit card to buy the plan.

    Q3. When will I receive my ID card?

    You can print out your ID card from your confirmation e-mail and it will be used as proof of insurance.

    Q4. Can I renew the plan, if I plan to stay longer?

    Yes, if you buy the plan initially for more than 5 days, you can renew the policy. You would need to renew the plan at least two days before the policy expires. There would be an extra $5 renewal charge. The policy can be renewed for up to a maximum of 364 days.

    Q5. Can I cancel the plan, if I plan to go back earlier?

    Yes, you can cancel and get a refund for the CoverAmerica - Gold Plan, if you need to go back earlier than plan. The following rules apply:
    1) You will get the full refund back if you cancel the policy before the policy start date.
    2) After the start date, you can get refund back, only if you do not need to visit the doctor/provider while the policy is in force.
    3) You can get a pro-rated refund for the number of days left in the policy
    4) $25 cancellation fee applies.
    5) If there is any claim on file, you would not get any refund back.
    6) Written request is required for any cancellation.

    Q6. Are pre-existing conditions covered by the CoverAmerica - Gold Plan?

    Pre-existing conditions are not covered by any travel insurance plan. The CoverAmerica - Gold plan covers for an acute onset of pre-existing conditions for people up to 79 years of age. This benefit is available 7 days after your coverage begins. Coverage amounts vary by age as shown in the Summary of Benefits section of this brochure, and there is an optional increase in coverage available if you are age 70-79. An acute onset of a pre-existing condition shall mean a sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a pre-existing condition which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of physician recommendations or symptoms and requires urgent care. The Acute onset of a Pre-Existing Condition(s) must occur after the Effective Date of the Certificate. Treatment must be obtained within 24 hours of the sudden and unexpected recurrence. A Pre-existing Condition that is a congenital condition or that gradually becomes worse over time will not be considered an acute onset. A pre-existing condition will not be considered an Acute Onset if during the 30 days prior to the acute event you had a change in prescription or treatment for a diagnosis related to the acute event. This benefit does not include coverage for known, scheduled, required, or expected medical care, drugs or treatments existent or necessary prior to arrival in the United States and prior to the Effective Date of Coverage. This benefit becomes available 7 days after the Effective Date of policy. There is no coverage for people above 79 years of age. Please check the Description of Coverage for more information about what is considered as acute onset of pre-existing condition.

    Q7. What is Hazardous Sports Coverage?

    Adventure Sports are usually not covered in travel medical policies. With additional premium you can purchase the optional Hazardous Spots Rider Coverage. This would cover for the following sports and activities: motorcycle /motor scooter riding (whether as a passenger or a driver), hang gliding, Parachuting, zip lining, parasailing, bungee jumping, water skiing, wakeboard riding, jet skiing, windsurfing, snowmobiling, and spelunking

    Q8. Which doctor or hospital can I go to?

    You can go to any doctor or hospital of your choice. If you would like, you can choose to go in the PPO network for CoverAmerica Gold. You can search for doctors or hospitals on this Provider Directory.

    Q11. When I buy this plan, do I need to make the full payment at once or do I have the option of paying it on a monthly basis?

    Based on the desired coverage length you have selected, you have to make the full payment at once.

    Since this plan is renewable you can renew it anytime you would like to before the policy expires. There is a renewable fee of $5 that associated with the renewal.
