Unfortunately, travel insurance can't be extended once it's been purchased. However, you are not without options should you need to extend.
You can buy travel insurance online for the additional travel dates before your current policy expires, and, luckily, doing this wouldn't cost you anymore than if you'd bought for those dates initially. This is particularly important for international travel insurance and countries where travel insurance is required.
