Yes, you can purchase travel insurance after your departure date, but the sooner you purchase, the better, as you want to make sure your insurance will cover you for any unexpected illness or injury that may occur during your visit. When filling out the application, enter the "trip start date" as the date you would like your coverage to begin. Most coverage can begin as soon as the next day.
