You can certainly purchase a visitors insurance plan for a dependent on an F2 visa. If your university does not have any specific compliance requirements for insurance, then you can purchase a visitors plan for yourself too. Most of the visitors insurance plans provide coverage for any sickness or injury that starts after your coverage begins. It will not cover for preventative care or pregnancy services.
