Outside the USA

Pre-existing Conditions
Medical coverage for Pre-existing and Acute Onset of Pre-existing Conditions.
Pre-existing conditions are not covered under Travel Medical plans unless classified as an acute onset of pre-existing condition by a physician and the insurer. Here are some common pre-existing conditions:

Pre-existing Condition means any injury, illness, sickness, disease, or other physical, medical, mental, or nervous disorder, condition , or ailment that, with reasonable medical certainty , existed at the time of application or at any time during the 2 years prior to the effective date of this insurance, whether or not previously manifested, symptomatic or known, diagnosed, related, or disclosed to us prior to the effective date , and including any and all subsequent, chronic or recurring complications or consequences related thereto or resulting or arising therefrom.
An acute onset of a pre-existing condition is a sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence that is of short duration, is rapidly progressive, and requires urgent care. A pre-existing condition that is a chronic or congenital, or that gradually becomes worse over time, is not acute onset of a pre-existing condition. The Acute Onset of Pre-existing Condition benefit will only apply if all of the following conditions are met: a) The Acute onset of a Pre-Existing Condition does not directly or indirectly relate to a chronic condition or congenital condition; b) Treatment must be obtained within twenty-four (24) hours of the sudden and unexpected outbreak or reoccurrence; c) You must be under eighty (80) years of age; d) You must not be traveling against or in disregard of the recommendations, established treatment programs, or medical advice of a physician or other healthcare provider; e) You must not be traveling with the intent or purpose to seek or obtain treatment for the pre-existing condition; f) You must be traveling outside your home country

Pre-existing conditions are not covered by Atlas America plan. However, the Atlas America plan covers up to the policy maximum for acute onset of pre-existing conditions in people up to 79 years of age. An acute onset of a pre-existing condition is defined as: A sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a Pre-existing Condition which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of Physician recommendations or symptoms. Chronic or congenital conditions or pre-existing conditions that gradually become worse over time will not be considered acute onset.
A pre-existing condition is defined as an Injury, illness, sickness, disease, or other physical, medical, mental, or nervous conditions, disorder or ailment (whether known or unknown) that, with reasonable medical certainty, existed at the time of application or within the 2 years immediately preceding the certificate effective date. An acute onset is a sudden unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a pre-existing condition which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of physician recommendations or symptoms, is of short duration. It has to be an acute medical condition that requires immediate medical attention.
The acute onset of a pre-existing must occur after the effective date of the policy. Treatment must be obtained within 24 hours of the sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence. Chronic or congenital conditions or pre-existing conditions that gradually become worse over time will not be considered acute onset. More conditions and restrictions apply. You can go to any doctor or hospital of your choice and be covered 100% for eligible medical expenses. However, if you choose to go to a provider within the United Healthcare PPO network for Atlas America, benefit prices may be negotiated.

Yes, you can cancel and get a refund for the Atlas America plan, if you need to go back earlier than planned. The following rules apply:
Atlas America covers eligible COVID-19 treatment and related medical services if the illness is contracted after the policy effective date. However, COVID-19 vaccines, boosters, and other preventive care services are not covered. COVID-19 testing is covered only when medically necessary, ordered by an attending physician for diagnostic purposes due to symptoms; tests required for travel are excluded. The plan also does not include a quarantine benefit, so please refer to your policy documents for complete details, limitations, and exclusions.

Atlas America's Accidental Death & Dismemberment rider is available for policyholders between the ages of 18 to 69 and must be purchased at the time of application. The rider increases the base amount of AD&D coverage in a policy. The AD&D benefit is not subject to the overall policy maximum. AD&D coverage provides benefits in the event of your death or loss of limb due to an accident. As Atlas America provides $25,000 in AD&D coverage to Members aged 18 to 69 in the base plan, this rider would increase the total AD&D benefit to $50,000 for only $0.35 / person / day.

Atlas America's Crisis Response Rider allows a policyholder to purchase an additional $90,000 in Crisis Response coverage and must be purchased at the time of application. As Atlas America provides $10,000 in Crisis Response coverage in the base plan, purchasing this rider would increase the total Crisis Response benefit to $100,000 for only $1.40 / person / day.
