Pre-existing conditions are not covered under Travel Medical plans unless classified as an acute onset of pre-existing condition by a physician and the insurer. Here are some common pre-existing conditions:

    Pre-existing Condition means any injury, illness, sickness, disease, or other physical, medical, mental, or nervous disorder, condition , or ailment that, with reasonable medical certainty , existed at the time of application or at any time during the 2 years prior to the effective date of this insurance, whether or not previously manifested, symptomatic or known, diagnosed, related, or disclosed to us prior to the effective date , and including any and all subsequent, chronic or recurring complications or consequences related thereto or resulting or arising therefrom.

    An acute onset of a pre-existing condition is a sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence that is of short duration, is rapidly progressive, and requires urgent care. A pre-existing condition that is a chronic or congenital, or that gradually becomes worse over time, is not acute onset of a pre-existing condition. The Acute Onset of Pre-existing Condition benefit will only apply if all of the following conditions are met: a) The Acute onset of a Pre-Existing Condition does not directly or indirectly relate to a chronic condition or congenital condition; b) Treatment must be obtained within twenty-four (24) hours of the sudden and unexpected outbreak or reoccurrence; c) You must be under eighty (80) years of age; d) You must not be traveling against or in disregard of the recommendations, established treatment programs, or medical advice of a physician or other healthcare provider; e) You must not be traveling with the intent or purpose to seek or obtain treatment for the pre-existing condition; f) You must be traveling outside your home country

    This rider, available to Members age 18 to 69, allows purchase of additional Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage. Coverage may be increased to equal the medical maximum coverage amount. The AD&D benefit is not subject to the overall policy maximum. Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage provides benefits in the event of your death or loss of limb due to an accident. It does not cover certain activities and conditions, as listed in the policy. As Atlas Travel provides $25,000 in AD&D coverage to Members age 18 to 69 in the base plan, this rider would increase the total AD&D benefit to $50,000 for only $0.35 / person / day.

    Non US-citizens and Non-US residents traveling to the U.S can purchase Atlas America.

    Pre-existing conditions are not covered by Atlas America plan. However, the Atlas America plan covers up to the policy maximum for acute onset of pre-existing conditions in people up to 79 years of age. An acute onset of a pre-existing condition is defined as: A sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a Pre-existing Condition which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of Physician recommendations or symptoms. Chronic or congenital conditions or pre-existing conditions that gradually become worse over time will not be considered acute onset.

    A pre-existing condition is defined as an Injury, illness, sickness, disease, or other physical, medical, mental, or nervous conditions, disorder or ailment (whether known or unknown) that, with reasonable medical certainty, existed at the time of application or within the 2 years immediately preceding the certificate effective date. Please check the Description of Coverage for more information about what is considered as acute onset of pre-existing condition.

    An acute onset is a sudden unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a pre-existing condition which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of physician recommendations or symptoms, is of short duration. It has to be an acute medical condition that requires immediate medical attention.

    The acute onset of a pre-existing must occur after the effective date of the policy. Treatment must be obtained within 24 hours of the sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence. Chronic or congenital conditions or pre-existing conditions that gradually become worse over time will not be considered acute onset. More conditions and restrictions apply. Please check the Atlas America Description of Coverage to understand what is covered as an acute onset of pre-existing condition.

    You can go to any doctor or hospital of your choice and be covered 100% for eligible medical expenses. However, if you choose to go to a provider within the United Healthcare PPO network for Atlas America, benefit prices may be negotiated.

    The Personal Liability Benefit allows a policyholder to purchase an additional $90,000 in Personal Liability coverage. The rider must be purchased at the time of application. As Atlas America provides $10,000 in Personal Liability coverage in the base plan, purchasing this rider would increase the total Personal Liability benefit to $100,000 for only $0.35 / person / day.

    Each insurance company may have state-specific regulations that determine where certain plans can be sold. These restrictions only affect residents of those particular states who are purchasing coverage. However, if you purchase an Atlas America plan and are traveling in the United States, you will have coverage in all 50 states during your active policy period, subject to the policy's terms, conditions, and exclusions.
    Yes, the Atlas America plan is extendable. It is recommended to extend the plan at least two days before the policy expires. There is a $5 extension fee added to the premium for the additional days of coverage. The policy can be extended for a minimum of 5 days up to a maximum of 365 days.

    Yes, you can cancel and get a refund for the Atlas America plan, if you need to go back earlier than planned. The following rules apply:

  • Written request is required for any cancellation.
  • If you cancel before the start date, you would get the full refund back.
  • If you cancel after the policy start date, you can get a pro-rated refund for the number of days left in the policy. Please note, there is a 5-day minimum purchase at the onset, and if the policy is cancelled after the effective date the policy must retain a minimum of 5-days.
  • $25 cancellation fee applies.
  • If there is any claim on file, you would not get any refund back.
  • You cannot remove one person from the Atlas America policy if other travelers are included. We recommend letting the current policy lapse with all travelers or canceling and repurchasing for the remaining travelers as per the policy terms.
    In order to complete the Atlas America application, you will need names, coverage duration, date(s) of birth, home country address, and a valid credit card.
    An email confirmation will be sent after purchase. The email will include links and instructions on how to access and print out your Atlas America ID card.
    Coverage will be provided in all eligible countries visited with the exception of your Home Country and any restricted countries listed in the policy documentation. Coverage under Atlas America will only be offered within the policy start and end dates. Please note: If any part of your trip includes the United States, please select it as your destination country.

    Atlas America covers eligible COVID-19 treatment and related medical services if the illness is contracted after the policy effective date. However, COVID-19 vaccines, boosters, and other preventive care services are not covered. COVID-19 testing is covered only when medically necessary, ordered by an attending physician for diagnostic purposes due to symptoms; tests required for travel are excluded. The plan also does not include a quarantine benefit, so please refer to your policy documents for complete details, limitations, and exclusions.

    Yes, you may purchase Atlas America even after the traveler has entered their destination country. Eligible benefits and coverage will begin after the policy’s effective start date.
    Atlas America application requires payment in full in order for coverage to begin. There is no monthly payment options. However, you can choose to renew your coverage monthly. There is a $5 extension fee applied for each extension done.
    Coverage will begin on the date selected and once the policyholder has left their home country. Atlas America will only cover for conditions that occur after the policy effective date.
    Only the primary destination in the Atlas America application will be listed on the policy documents, but rest assured that all other eligible inputted countries will be covered during the active policy period.
    Coverage under the Atlas America plan begins on the selected effective date at 12:01 a.m. EST, provided the traveler has departed their home country. Coverage is available while traveling outside the home country and outside any restricted territories, as long as the policy remains active.     No, your Atlas America plan won't be extended or renewed automatically. To continue coverage, you must log in to your online account and submit an extension or renewal request before the policy expires.
