Atlas America Premium (A.M. Best Rating: A) is a premium travel medical insurance plan for international visitors traveling to the United States. It offers comprehensive medical coverage, access to the UnitedHealthcare PPO network, emergency travel assistance, and acute onset coverage of pre-existing conditions for eligible travelers. Coverage is available from 5 days to 365 days.

While in the U.S., after the deductible is satisfied within the United Healthcare PPO network, the plan will pay 100% of eligible medical expenses up to the selected policy maximum. Outside of the PPO network, the plan will pay 100% of eligible medical expenses, up to the selected policy maximum.

Atlas America Premium does not cover pre-existing conditions. Atlas America Premium includes acute onset coverage of pre-existing conditions up to the policy maximum for travelers under age 80.

When visiting a healthcare facility, remember to mention United Healthcare as your PPO provider. Atlas America Premium policy holders should visit providers listed within the United Healthcare directory to take advantage of in-network benefits.

    The Atlas America Premium plan is available for: US and Non-US citizens traveling outside their home country and country of citizenship.

    Pre-existing conditions are not covered by Atlas America Premium plan. However, the plan covers up to the policy maximum for acute onset of pre-existing conditions in people up to 79 years of age. An acute onset of a pre-existing condition is defined as: A sudden and unexpected outbreak or recurrence of a Pre-existing Condition which occurs spontaneously and without advance warning either in the form of Physician recommendations or symptoms. Chronic or congenital conditions or pre-existing conditions that gradually become worse over time will not be considered acute onset.

    The cost of Atlas America Premium varies based on several qualifying criteria, such as the traveler's age, duration or length of trip, and selected coverage benefit limits. Typically, it can cost about $7 a day for a person 50 years of age, when selecting coverage area or destination of travel as the USA.

    You can go to any doctor or hospital of your choice. If you would like, you can choose to go in the PPO network for the Atlas America Premium plan, which is the United Healthcare Network.

    Each insurance company may have their own state-specific regulations on where plans can be sold. These state restrictions only impact residents from those specific states from purchasing these plans. However, if you are traveling to the United States, you will be covered in all 50 states during your active Atlas America Premium policy period.
    Yes, you can extend the Atlas America Premium policy. You would need to extend the plan at least two days before the policy expires. There would be an extra $5 extension charge. The policy can be extended for a minimum of 5 days and up to a maximum of 365 days.

    Yes, you can cancel and get a refund for the Atlas America Premium plan if you need to go back earlier than planned. The following rules apply:

    • Written request is required for any cancellation.
    • You can get a refund back, only if no claim has been filed.
    • If you cancel before the start date, you would get the full refund back.
    • If you cancel after the policy start date, you can get a pro-rated refund for the number of days left in the policy. Please note, there is a 5-day minimum purchase at the onset, and if the policy is cancelled after the effective date the policy must retain a minimum of 5-days.
    • $25 cancellation fee applies.
    • If there is any claim on file, you would not get any refund back.
    You cannot remove one person from your Atlas America Premium policy if other travelers are included. We recommend letting the current policy lapse with all travelers or canceling and repurchasing for the remaining travelers as per the policy terms.
    In order to apply for Atlas America Premium you will need names, coverage duration, date(s) of birth, home country address, and a valid credit card.
    You can print out your Atlas America Premium ID card from your confirmation e-mail and it will be used as proof of insurance.
    Atlas America Premium will provide coverage in all eligible countries visited with the exception of your Home Country and any restricted countries listed in the policy documentation. Coverage will only be offered within the policy start and end dates. Please note: If any part of your trip includes the United States, please select it as your destination country.
    Atlas America Premium can cover for COVID-19 and will be treated the same as any other eligible medical condition so long as the virus is contracted after the policy effective date and you have departed from the country of residence.     Based on the desired coverage length you have selected, you have to make the full payment at once.

    Since the Atlas America Premium plan is renewable you can renew it anytime you would like to before the policy expires. There is a renewable fee of $5 that associated with the renewal.

    Only the primary destination in the application will be listed on the Atlas America Premium policy documents, but rest assured that all other eligible inputted countries will be covered during the active policy period.
    Yes, you may purchase the Atlas America Premium policy even after the traveler has entered their destination country. Eligible benefits and coverage will begin after the policy's effective start date.
    Coverage on the Atlas America Premium plan will begin on the date of departure (12:01am EST) and once the traveler has left their home country. Coverage areas are anywhere outside one's home country as long as the policy is active. The coverage will end immediately once the traveler has entered back into their home country and at 11:59pm EST on the last date of coverage.
    No, your Atlas America Premium plan won't be extended or renewed automatically. You have to sign into your account online and activate the extension or renewal yourself. Not all plans are extendable or renewable, so be sure to review your policy terms and conditions for eligibility.
    If your school or educational program does not any have specific health insurance requirements to meet, this Atlas America Premium can offer short-term health insurance coverage while you are abroad. It is important to confirm with the school or educational program to ensure that any short-term health insurance plan will be accepted by them.
