Optional add-on benefits
Add more protection to your trip for peace of mind. You will be able to select these optional add-on benefits during the checkout process.
Disclaimer: Optional add-on benefits available on the plan and their pricing may change on the checkout page, based on the information provided on the application form.
Policy Maximum (also known as the coverage limit, maximum limit, maximum coverage or policy limit) is the maximum amount the insurance company may be willing to pay for services covered by the policyholder’s insurance plan. Depending on the policy, the Policy Maximum may be applicable to a single incident, an entire year, or the insured’s policy lifetime.
What policy maximum should I choose?
The Policy Maximum a person should choose may depend on several factors such as:
The type of travel plans- If the trip involves more strenuous activities, a higher policy maximum may be the best option to cover any unforeseen medical illnesses or accidents.
The age of the traveler- Insurance plans may limit the amount an insured person in a specific age group (usually 70+) can have in terms of coverage. Eldery travelers tend to be limited at about $50k policy maximum, depending on the plan.
The cost of the plan- The higher policy maximum chosen, the higher the premium will be. Depending on how much a traveler has budgeted for travel insurance, it can impact how much coverage a person can afford.
Length of trip- If a traveler will be traveling for longer periods of time, it's advisable to get a higher policy maximum to cover the cost of any new sickness or injuries that may occur on their long journey.
Ensure the amount you're choosing will cover you for any unexpected situations and allow you to travel with peace of mind.
NOTE: The Policy Maximum is the outer limit of the insurance company's liability for covered expenses only. Not all treatment and services will be covered up to the Policy Maximum. All applicable limits and/or exclusions will apply.
Understanding Deductibles
What is a deductible?
This is the amount that you are responsible for paying before the insurance company begins to pay for any covered expenses.
For example: if you purchase a plan with a USD $250 deductible and incur USD $1,500 in expenses, the insurance company will begin to reimburse for expenses as per the policy MINUS the deductible on the policy. For this type of plan, you need to pay the deductible only once per year, which means no matter how many medical services you have taken, the deductible is only applied once as long the length of policy is less than 12 months.
What deductible should I choose?
The deductible may apply either per year or per incident, depending on the policy. Generally, choosing a higher deductible can lower your premium, so you might consider this option if you want to reduce your overall cost.
The choice also depends on your comfort level, and how much you are ready to pay as a deductible in the event you use the insurance. If there is not much difference in premium, then you may choose lower deductible. USD $100 or USD $250 can be a good choice.
Understanding Pre-Existing Coverage Limits
What is the Pre-Existing Condition Policy Maximum?
The Pre-Existing Condition Policy Maximum is the maximum amount the insurance company may be willing to pay for treatment and services the policyholder receives pertaining to their existing medical conditions.
The Pre-existing condition policy maximum is per injury/sickness. After the pre-existing condition policy maximum is met, the policyholder will be responsible for any remaining medical expenses for treatment and services related to their pre-existing condition.
What is the Pre-Existing Condition Deductible?
The Pre-Existing Condition Deductible is the amount the policyholder is responsible for paying before the insurance company begins to pay for any pre-existing covered expenses. The pre-existing deductible is per injury/sickness.
For example: if you purchase a plan with a USD $1,500 deductible and incur USD $5,000 in pre-existing condition expenses, the insurance company will begin to reimburse for expenses as per the policy MINUS the deductible on the policy. The pre-existing deductible needs to be fully met each time a policyholder utilizes the pre-existing condition coverage per injury/sickness.
