Pathway Essential (A.M. Best Rating: A) is a comprehensive trip insurance plan for U.S. residents traveling domestically or internationally. It helps protect non-refundable trip costs while providing generous benefits for Trip Cancellation, Emergency Medical Expenses, baggage, and covered travel disruptions. Coverage is available for trips up to 90 days.

Pathway Essential does not participate in any PPO network. You can visit any doctor or hospital of your choice.

Pathway Essential excludes coverage for pre-existing conditions.

Covid-19 Coverage

Treatment for COVID-19 is covered if contracted after the plan effective date. Cancellation, Interruption, & Quarantine benefits are offered in this plan. Covid-19 testing is covered only if ordered by a physician. Vaccination/Boosters are not covered.

Quarantine coverage in Trip Insurance plans fall under the "Trip Delay" benefit. Policyholders who test positive and are ordered by a physician to quarantine can utilize the Trip Delay benefit to cover any expenses incurred while quarantining.

Trip Insurance Claim Process

U.S residents who need trip cancellation benefits for travel within the USA and internationally.

Each insurance company may have their own state-specific regulations on where plans can be sold. These state restrictions only impact residents from those specific states from purchasing these plans. However, if you are traveling to the United States, you will be covered in all 50 states during your active policy period.

Trip plans are not renewable. In case of change of plans, you would need to purchase a new plan.

You may cancel the insurance by giving written consent within the first to occur of the following: (a) 14 day free look back period from the effective date of your insurance; (b) Your scheduled departure date. If you do this, the company will refund your premium paid provided no claim is under the policy.

You cannot remove one person from the policy if other travelers are included. We recommend letting the current policy lapse with all travelers or canceling and repurchasing for the remaining travelers as per the policy terms.

You will need names, coverage duration, date(s) of birth, home country address, total nonrefundable trip costs, and a valid credit card.

After purchasing the policy online, you will receive your ID card in your confirmation email.

Coverage will be provided in all eligible countries visited with the exception of your Home Country and any restricted countries listed in the policy documentation. Coverage will only be offered within the policy start and end dates. Please note: If any part of your trip includes the United States, please select it as your destination country.

Only the primary destination in the application will be listed on the policy documents, but rest assured that all other eligible inputted countries will be covered during the active policy period.

Coverage on a trip insurance plan will begin the day after you have purchased your policy and will cover you for reasons such as trip cancellation prior to the departure date.

Pathway Essential can cover for COVID-19 and will be treated the same as any other eligible medical condition so long as the virus is contracted after the policy effective date and you have departed from the country of residence. The Pathway Essential plan does not cover for the COVID-19 vaccine/booster, but will cover COVID-19 treatment and services the same as any other eligible condition if contracted after the policy effective date. Preventative care related to COVID-19, like vaccines/boosters is not covered under the policy. Please sign in to your account to view your plan specific documents for any limits or exclusions.

Pathway Essential will only cover for COVID-19 testing if the policyholder is experiencing symptoms and the test is ordered by an attending physician for diagnostic purposes. COVID-19 tests to meet travel requirements will not be covered.

Quarantine coverage in Pathway Essential plans fall under the “Trip Delay” benefit. Policyholders who test positive and are ordered by a physician to quarantine can utilize the Trip Delay benefit to cover any expenses incurred while quarantining. The Trip Delay benefit will provide policyholders a specified monetary amount. A policyholder can use their Trip Delay benefit on; reasonable accommodation, meals, telephone calls and local transportation expenses. Receipts must accompany the Reasonable Additional Expenses incurred.

The trip cost should include any non-refundable payments made related to the trip. In case of unforeseen cancellation of the trip, these costs would be lost. Examples of these are costs of airline tickets, hotel reservations, tour reservations, etc.

All options of the plan would cover for the specific covered reasons. Some of these include: Sickness, Injury or Death, Felonious Assault, Military Duty for Natural Disaster Relief, Jury Duty, Termination/Layoff, Strike, Weather, Hijacking, Terrorist Incident, Traffic Accident, Bankruptcy/Default, Quarantine, Residence Uninhabitable

Trip cancellation benefits become available if the trip is cancelled before the journey begins (before the start date of the policy). Trip interruption benefits are available after the journey begins. If for some documented covered reason, the trip is cancelled after the journey starts, the insured person has to go back to the home country.

The insurance provider recommends that you submit any correction requests in writing as your policy is a legally enforceable document. Following receipt of the correction, we send the request to the insurance provider; normally, the updates require 3-5 business days. They are processed in the order that they are received. We advise double-checking the information on the application before completing the purchase to prevent any errors and corrections.

Pathway Essential offers a Rental Car Damage rider that covers the collision damage, theft, vandalism, windstorm, fire, hail, flood or any cause not within your control while in your possession. The policyholder has the ability to choose which days of coverage they will need with the Rental Car Damage rider. The rider must be purchased at the time of application. Not available for residents of New York. Policyholders should review their policy terms and conditions for any exclusions and restrictions.

Pathway Essential offers an Adventure Sports and Extreme Sports rider that covers sports and activities such as skydiving, bungee jumping, and more. The rider must be purchased at the time of application. Please review your policy terms and conditions for a list of exclusions and restrictions.

Pathway Essential offers an Accidental Death & Dismemberment rider that covers if you suffer a covered loss — including death or dismemberment — as a result of an accident during your trip. Policyholders should review their policy terms and conditions for any exclusions and restrictions.

COVID-19 Medical Expenses

Medical treatment and services related to COVID-19 can be covered in the event that the virus was contracted after the policy effective date.
