Atlas Essential (A.M. Best Rating: A) is a comprehensive travel medical insurance plan that provides affordable medical coverage for visitors traveling to the United States. It combines flexible deductible options, emergency medical benefits, travel assistance, and access to the UnitedHealthcare PPO network, making it an excellent value for family visits, vacations, and temporary stays. Coverage is available from 5 days to 365 days.

While in the U.S., after the deductible is satisfied within the United Healthcare PPO network, the plan will pay 70% of eligible medical expenses up to the selected policy maximum. Outside of the PPO network, the plan will pay URC of eligible medical expenses, up to the selected policy maximum.

    Non US-citizens and Non-US residents traveling to the U.S can purchase Atlas Essential America.

    Pre-existing conditions and acute onset of pre-existing conditions are not covered by the Atlas Essential America plan. A Pre-existing condition is defined as an Injury, illness, sickness, disease, or other physical, medical, mental, or nervous conditions, disorder or ailment (whether known or unknown) that, with reasonable medical certainty, existed at the time of application or within the 2 years immediately preceding the certificate effective date. Please check the Description of Coverage for more information about what is considered a pre-existing condition.

    The cost of Atlas Essential America varies based on several qualifying criteria, such as the traveler's age, duration or length of trip, and selected coverage benefit limits. Typically, it can cost about $3 a day for a person 50 years of age, when selecting coverage area or destination of travel as the USA.

    With Atlas Essential America, you can go to any doctor or hospital of your choice and be covered 70% for eligible medical expenses. However, if you choose to go to a provider within the United Healthcare PPO network for Atlas Essential America, benefit prices may be negotiated.

    Each insurance company may have their own state-specific regulations on where plans can be sold. These state restrictions only impact residents from those specific states from purchasing these plans. However, if you are traveling to the United States, you will be covered in all 50 states during your active Atlas Essential America policy period.
    Yes, you can extend the Atlas Essential America policy. It is recommended to extend the plan at least two days before the policy expires. There is a $5 extension fee added to the premium for the additional days of coverage. The policy can be extended for a minimum of 5 days and up to a maximum of 365 days.

    Yes, you can cancel and get a refund for the Atlas Essential America plan, if you need to go back earlier than planned. The following rules apply:

  • Written request is required for any cancellation.
  • If you cancel before the start date, you would get the full refund back.
  • If you cancel after the policy start date, you can get a pro-rated refund for the remaining days left in the policy. Please note, there is a 5-day minimum purchase at the onset, and if the policy is cancelled after the effective date the policy must retain a minimum of 5-days.
  • $25 cancellation fee applies.
  • If there is any claim on file, you would not get any refund back.
  • You cannot remove one person from the Atlas Essential America policy if other travelers are included. We recommend letting the current policy lapse with all travelers or canceling and repurchasing for the remaining travelers as per the policy terms.
    In order to apply for Atlas Essential America, you will need names, coverage duration, date(s) of birth, home country address, and a valid credit card.
    An email confirmation will be sent after purchase. The email will include links and instructions on how to access and print out your Atlas Essential America ID card.
    Coverage will be provided in all eligible countries visited with the exception of your Home Country and any restricted countries listed in the Atlas Essential America policy documentation. Coverage will only be offered within the policy start and end dates. Please note: If any part of your trip includes the United States, please select it as your destination country.

    Atlas Essential America can cover for COVID-19 and will be treated the same as any other eligible medical condition so long as the virus is contracted after the policy effective date and you have departed from the country of residence.     Payment in full is required in order for coverage to begin. There are no monthly payment options.

    You can choose to renew your Atlas Essential America coverage monthly. There is a $5 extension fee applied for each extension done.

    Coverage will begin on the date selected and once the policyholder has left their home country. The Atlas Essential America policy will only cover for conditions that occur after the policy effective date.
    Only the primary destination in the application will be listed on the Atlas Essential America policy documents, but rest assured that all other eligible input countries will be covered during the active policy period.
    Coverage on the Atlas Essential America plan will begin on the date of departure (12:01am EST) and once the traveler has left their home country. Coverage areas are anywhere outside one's home country as long as the policy is active. The coverage will end immediately once the traveler has entered back into their home country and at 11:59pm EST on the last date of coverage.
    No, your Atlas Essential America plan won't be extended or renewed automatically. You have to sign into your account online and activate the extension or renewal yourself. Not all plans are extendable or renewable, so be sure to review your policy terms and conditions for eligibility.
    If your school or educational program does not any have specific health insurance requirements to meet, Atlas Essential America can offer short-term health insurance coverage while you are abroad. It is important to confirm with the school or educational program to ensure that any short-term health insurance plan will be accepted by them.
    Yes, Atlas Essential America provides coverage to non-U.S. citizens regardless of visa status, as long as the applicant is a non-U.S. resident. To be eligible, the applicant must provide a residence address outside of the U.S.

    The insurance provider recommends that you submit any correction requests in writing as your policy is a legally enforceable document. Following receipt of the correction, we send the request to the insurance provider; normally, the updates require 3-5 business days. They are processed in the order that they are received.     If the insurance company becomes insolvent and is not able to pay out a liability claim on the Atlas Essential America policy, the State of California will not be liable for the claims.
