Eligibility for CoverAmerica-Gold®
- Available for B1 and B2 visa holders, non-immigrant visa holders, or under the visa waiver program residing outside of the U.S., while traveling to the United States and for incidental trips to Canada, Mexico, Central America, Caribbean, and South America.
- Coverage begins once the policyholder has left their home country and has entered one of the eligible destination countries (or) is in transit to another eligible country after the USA
- For Ages 14 days to 79 years
- Coverage for minimum of 5 days up to 365 days
- Extendable for up to 365 days
- Must purchase a minimum of 30 days of coverage prior to leaving the country of residence to be eligible for the Public Health Emergency Screening (COVID-19 Test) benefit.

The CoverAmerica-Gold plan is available to B1/B2 visa holders, non-immigrant visa holders, and travelers entering the United States under the Visa Waiver Program who reside outside the U.S.
Acute onset means a sudden, unexpected recurrence that requires urgent care and happens after the policy starts. Treatment must be sought within 24 hours. Ongoing or congenital conditions and changes in treatment 30 days prior are not covered. Coverage is unavailable for those over age 79. Please review the Description of Coverage for more details.
You can visit any doctor or hospital of your choice. However, it is recommended to go within the PPO network for CoverAmerica-Gold. You can search for doctors or hospitals on this Provider Directory.
A typical travel medical insurance policy will cover medical emergencies, but the best policy would also offer comprehensive coverage for COVID-19. This means the insurance company will not only assist if you get sick but also reimburse you for delays, quarantines (enforced stays), or missed departures (missed connection). Yes, you can cancel and get a refund for the CoverAmerica-Gold plan, if you need to go back earlier than planned. The following rules apply:
1) You will receive a full refund if you cancel the policy before the policy start date.
2) After the start date, you may receive a pro-rated refund for the number of days remaining on the policy.
3) If there is any claim on file, there is no refund.
4) Written request is required for any cancellation.
The Influenza (flu) Vaccination benefit will allow an insured person the ability to get a one-time flu vaccination up to $50. The benefit is only available in the United States and has a $25 deductible. Treatment and services are subject to the terms and conditions of the certificate. CoverAmerica-Gold can cover for COVID-19 and will be treated the same as any other eligible medical condition so long as the virus is contracted after the policy effective date and you have departed from the country of residence. Automatic monthly payment options are not available for CoverAmerica-Gold.
You can log into your account to submit a request to extend or renew your coverage each month before the policy expires. There are no additional fees applied when extending the policy.
The preferred rate, which is approximately 5% lower than the standard rate, is automatically applied during checkout for eligible returning customers.
The CoverAmerica-Gold Public Emergency Health Screening benefit will allow an insured person who has 30 days or more of coverage the ability to get a one-time screening up to $150. A screening that results in a positive test during a travel warning of any kind in the destination country will not grant coverage for treatment and services. This benefit is ONLY for a public health emergency screening. Treatment and services are subject to the terms and conditions of the certificate. The CoverAmerica-Gold plan does offer a daily quarantine indemnity benefit. The quarantine indemnity benefit can provide a policyholder a fixed monetary amount to cover additional expenses while ordered to quarantine. Please review the policy documents for limits and exclusions.
However, after purchasing CoverAmerica-Gold as the primary traveler, the spouse or dependent would be eligible for the preferred rate each time they purchase the plan for coverage in the U.S.
This is a discount savings program available to certificate holders of the CoverAmerica-Gold plan. This program allows card members to purchase prescriptions at one of over 35,000 participating pharmacies in the U.S. and receive the lower of 1) Universal Rx contract price or 2) the pharmacy regular retail price.
This discount program is not insurance coverage. It is purely a discount program to purchasers of the CoverAmerica-Gold plan. Use of the discount card does not guarantee that prescribed medication is covered under the insurance benefit plan.

Adventure Sports:The Adventure Sports Rider offered in the CoverAmerica-Gold plan is available for travelers up to the age of 65 and must be purchased at the time of application. The rider is designed to cover a policyholder while participating in the following activities if the activity is solely for leisure, recreation or entertainment purposes:abseiling, BMX; bobsledding; bungee jumping; canyoning; caving; hot air ballooning; jungle zip lining; parachuting; paragliding; parascending; rappelling; skydiving; spelunking; wildlife safaris; and windsurfing.
All such activities must be carried out in strict accordance with the rules, regulations and guidelines of the applicable Governing Body or Authority of each such activity.
PLEASE NOTE: Certain sports activities are never covered, regardless of whether or not you purchase the Adventure Sports Rider. Please see exclusion 8 in the exclusions page.
