Visitors Protect (rated A-) is a comprehensive Travel Medical insurance plan providing temporary medical coverage for emergency services and limited pre-existing conditions for international visitors traveling to the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Coverage begins once the policyholder has left their home country and has entered the destination country. The coverage duration available is from 90 days to 365 days. While in the U.S, after the deductible is satisfied within the United Healthcare PPO network, the plan will pay 75% of eligible medical expenses up to the policy maximum. Outside of the PPO network, the plan will pay 60% of eligible medical expenses up to the policy maximum. Learn more about how Visitors Protect works.

    Any traveler visiting the U.S, Canada, or Mexico can purchase the Visitors Protect plan. The plan offers coverage for those 14 days up to 99 years of age. The Visitors Protect plan provides travel medical coverage with limited pre-existing condition benefits. Please Note: Purchase must be done before departing the country of residence if your destination is the U.S.


    The Visitors Protect plan can cover for worsening of a pre-existing condition up to the stated amount on the policy document. For those up to the age of 69, pre-existing conditions are covered up to $25,000. For those ages 70 and older, pre-existing conditions are covered up to $20,000. Please review the policy terms and conditions for any additional limits or exclusions.

    No, the Visitors Protect plan covers only for worsening or emergencies related to pre-existing conditions that were stable with medications.
    Lab work prescribed by an attending doctor for the treatment or diagnosis of a worsening pre-existing condition may be covered by Visitors Protect.

    The cost of Visitors Protect varies based on several qualifying criteria, such as the traveler's age, duration or length of trip, and selected coverage benefit limits. Typically, it can cost about $8 a day for a person 50 years of age, when selecting coverage area or destination of travel as the USA.

    The Visitors Protect plan is not extendable or renewable.

    Yes, you can cancel and get a refund for the Visitors Protect plan, if you need to go back earlier than planned. The following rules apply:

  • Written request is required for any cancellation.
  • If you cancel before the start date, you would get the full refund back.
  • If you cancel after the policy start date, a prorated refund would only apply to policies with no claims.
  • Refunds will be calculated based on the number of days remaining minus the ninety (90) day minimum purchase requirement
  • $50 cancellation fee applies.
  • If there is any claim on file, you would not get any refund back.
  • You cannot remove one person from the Visitors Protect policy if other travelers are included. We recommend letting the current policy lapse with all travelers or canceling and repurchasing for the remaining travelers as per the policy terms.
    To purchase Visitors Protect, you will need names, coverage duration, date(s) of birth, home country address and a valid credit card.
    After enrolling in Visitors Protect, you will receive an email confirmation containing an attachment for ID cards, a certificate of insurance, and a visa letter.
    Coverage, with Visitors Protect, will be provided in all eligible countries visited with the exception of your Home Country and any restricted countries listed in the policy documentation. Coverage will only be offered within the policy start and end dates. Please note: If any part of your trip includes the United States, please select it as your destination country.
    Visitors Protect can cover for COVID-19 and will be treated the same as any other eligible medical condition so long as the virus is contracted after the policy effective date and you have departed from the country of residence. The Visitors Protect plan does not cover for the COVID-19 vaccine/booster. Visitors Protect will only cover for COVID-19 testing if the policyholder is experiencing symptoms and the test is ordered by an attending physician for diagnostic purposes. COVID-19 tests to meet travel requirements will not be covered.

    Based on the desired coverage length you have selected, you have to make the full payment at once. Visitors Protect is not extendable or renewable.
    Coverage with Visitors Protect will begin on the date selected and once the policyholder has left their home country.
    Only the primary destination in the application will be listed on the Visitors Protect policy documents, but rest assured that all other eligible inputted countries will be covered during the active policy period.
    Coverage on the Visitors Protect plan will begin on the selected coverage start date (12:01am EST) and once the traveler has left their home country. Coverage areas are the United States, Canada, and Mexico as long as the policy is active. The coverage will end immediately once the traveler has entered back into their home country and at 12:01am EST the day after the last date of coverage.
    The Visitors Protect plan does not offer any coverage for quarantine.
    The insurance provider for Visitors Protect recommends that you submit any correction requests in writing as your policy is a legally enforceable document. Following receipt of the correction, we send the request to the insurance provider; normally, the updates require 3-5 business days. They are processed in the order that they are received. We advise double-checking the information on the application before completing the purchase to prevent any errors and corrections.
    If your original payment method for Visitors Protect is invalid, refunds require a wire/ACH transfer. Please provide complete account holder details, including full address, account type (checking/savings), bank information, and complete addresses for processing.
