Patriot Group Exchange (A.M. Best Rating: A) is a travel medical insurance plan for exchange programs, mission trips, educational travel, and other organized groups. It helps satisfy J visa insurance requirements while providing comprehensive medical coverage, emergency assistance, and convenient group enrollment. Coverage is available from 1 month to 365 days.

While in the U.S., after the deductible is satisfied within the United Healthcare PPO network, the plan will pay 90% of eligible medical expenses up to $1,000, then 100% thereafter, up to the selected policy maximum. Outside of the PPO network, the plan will pay 80% in eligible medical expenses, up to the selected policy maximum.

Patriot Group Exchange does not cover pre-existing conditions. Patriot Group Exchange Includes limited coverage for pre-existing conditions after 12 months of continuous coverage, up to $500 per period of coverage and $1,500 maximum lifetime benefit.

    This program is designed for students and scholars studying abroad or participants of cultural exchange programs. To be eligible, members must be actively engaged in an educational or cultural exchange program in the country of assignment through a sponsoring organization or school, or be the spouse or dependent of a participating student, traveling with them.

    Your plan must become effective within 180 days of your arrival in the United States. The coverage period ranges from a minimum of 5 days to a maximum of 48 months. This plan is available for individuals aged between 31 days and 64 years.
    Coverage begins when the group member and their traveling dependents have legally departed their home country, entered the host country, and are not citizens of the host country.

    Yes, after 12 months of continuous coverage, this plan covers up to $500 per year; $1,500 lifetime maximum for pre-existing conditions.

    Each insurance company may have state-specific regulations on where their plans can be sold, affecting only residents of those states. However, if you are traveling to the United States, you will be covered in all 50 states during your active policy period

    Yes, if you purchase the plan initially for a minimum of 5 days, coverage may be extended for a total of up to 48 months.

    Yes, you can cancel this plan. Full refund is available if you request for cancellation before the start date. After the start date, a refund for the unused days is available if no claims have been made. $50 Cancellation fee is applicable.


    You will need full name(s), coverage dates, date(s) of birth, home country address, and a valid credit card.

    The online confirmation/virtual ID card serves as proof of insurance and can be presented to the doctor or hospital. When completing the online application, choosing online fulfillment means you'll receive everything via email

    Only the primary destination will be listed on the policy documents, but all eligible countries will still be covered during the policy period.

    The travel medical insurance plan starts coverage on the date of departure (12:01 am EST) and once the traveler leaves their home country. Coverage applies worldwide outside the home country as long as the policy is active. Coverage ends immediately upon re-entry into the home country and at 12:01 am EST on the last coverage date.

    No, your Patriot Group Exchange plan won't be extended or renewed automatically. You will need to sign into your account online and manually activate the extension or renewal before the policy expires. Not all plans are extendable or renewable, so be sure to review your policy terms and conditions for eligibility.
    The Patriot Group Exchange plan does not cover for the COVID-19 vaccine/booster, but will cover COVID-19 treatment and services the same as any other eligible condition if contracted after the policy effective date. Preventative care related to COVID-19, like vaccines/boosters is not covered under the policy. Please sign in to your account to view your plan-specific documents for any limits or exclusions.
    Patriot Group Exchange will only cover for COVID-19 testing if the policyholder is experiencing symptoms and the test is ordered by an attending physician for diagnostic purposes. COVID-19 tests to meet travel requirements will not be covered.
    The Patriot Group Exchange plan does not offer any coverage for quarantine.

    Yes, this plan provides coverage for the participant's spouse and unmarried dependent children traveling with them. Spouse and dependents can apply for coverage by themselves if they hold a J2 visa, and the J1 visa holder who is participating in the educational or cultural exchange program has purchased a plan through that program.

    First, purchase the Patriot Group Exchange Insurance. After your purchase (enrollment) is complete, simply fax or email your school's Compliance or Waiver Form to (317.665.4505 or email: support@visitorscoverage.com). We will complete it and fax it back to your school for you.

    No, this plan does not cover for pregnancy.

    The insurance provider recommends submitting correction requests in writing, as your policy is a legally enforceable document. Once received, we forward the request to the provider, who will process requests in the order they are received. It typically take 3-5 business days, for the correction to be completed. To avoid errors and corrections, please double-check your application before purchasing.
    The Collision Add-On rider covers up to $50,000 for collision sports, $250 for lost baggage, $500 for legal assistance fees, and up to $2,000 for personal liability.

    Collision sports involve participants intentionally hitting or colliding with each other or objects including American football, boxing, ice hockey, lacrosse, full-contact martial arts, rodeo, rugby, and wrestling.
    The Non-Collision Add-On rider covers medical expenses for non-collision sports, up to $250 for lost or stolen baggage, $500 for legal assistance fees, and up to $2,000 for personal liability.

    A non-collision sports activity is one undertaken by amateurs for recreational, entertainment, or fitness purposes, without collisions.

    The Adventure Sports Rider offered in the Patriot Group Exchange plan must be purchased at the time of application. The rider is designed to cover a policyholder while participating in the following activities if the activity is solely for leisure, recreation or entertainment purposes:abseiling, BMX, bobsledding, bungee jumping, canyoning, caving, hang gliding, heli-skiing, high diving, hot air ballooning, inline skating, jet skiing, jungle zip lining, kayaking, mountain biking, parachuting, paragliding, parascending, piloting a non-commercial aircraft, rappelling, rock climbing or mountaineering (ropes and guides to 4500m from ground level), scuba diving (to 50m), skydiving, snorkeling, snowboarding, snowmobiling, snow skiing, spelunking, surfing, trekking, whitewater rafting (to Class V), and wildlife safaris, and windsurfing.

    All such activities must be carried out in strict accordance with the rules, regulations and guidelines of the applicable Governing Body or Authority of each such activity. PLEASE NOTE: Certain sports activities are never covered, regardless of whether or not you purchase the Adventure Sports Rider. Please see exclusions page.     The Mobile Device Protection rider is an optional coverage that can cover the insured's cellular phone in case of damages during travel. The optional rider can either provide coverage for repair costs or some coverage for replacing the cellular phone.

    Patriot Group Exchange can cover Monkeypox and will treat it the same as any other eligible medical condition so long as the virus is contracted after the policy effective date and you have departed your home country.     If your original payment method is invalid, refunds will require a wire or ACH transfer. Please provide the account holder's full address, account type (checking/savings), and complete bank information for processing.

    You cannot remove one person from the policy if other travelers are included. We recommend letting the current policy lapse with all travelers or canceling and repurchasing for the remaining travelers as per the policy terms.
