International Student Health Insurance Requirements

Depending on which visa you hold, the requirements for student health insurance may vary. However, the government requirements for J1 visa students include:

  • Medical benefits of $100,000 per accident or illness
  • Repatriation of remains coverage of $25,000
  • Emergency medical evacuation coverage of $50,000
  • A deductible of no more than $500 per accident or illness

As an international student, it’s important to review both government regulations and your school’s requirements for health insurance to choose a plan that satisfies these requirements.

Which Study USA Plan Should I Choose?

With multiple Study USA insurance plans available, it can be difficult to choose the plan that is best suited for you. The plans are tiered based on benefits and coverage, with Basic being the most affordable and minimal plan available and Platinum being the most comprehensive.

Depending on your needs, it is recommended to review each plan’s individual benefits and coverage amounts. You may be looking for a specific benefit, such as coverage for sports, which can only be found in the Platinum plan. Alternatively, maybe you are looking for the most basic coverage that still meets your school’s requirements, in which case the Basic plan might be perfect for you.
